As Borough elections come round again it is always a time for reflection by those of us, who have served as Councillors for some time. This May I will complete my 30th year as a Borough Councillor 20 of those in Langley Green, where I have lived for 30 years with my husband Jim Smith, I still have the same passion and desire to speak on behalf of Langley Green and ensure that our residents and neighbourhood have the best representation it can. I have served on every committee of the Council., been a cabinet member for a short while. Chaired the Overview and Scrutiny commission for several years, and been honoured to be Crawley Mayor on 2 occasions, last year being the 2nd time. Crawley is a good place to live work and play and bring up a family. I am proud to be a member of the Labour controlled Council which is fighting hard to maintain services in the face of swingeing Government cuts. In my years as a Langley Green Councillor, we have built a new primary school, a new community Centre, relocated the Youth club to a central and well maintained building, completely revamped and regenerated our shopping centre. Provided a new Scout HQ for our thriving Scout Group. Seen a new and improved Doctors surgery built. Our Adventure Playground is about to undergo extensive redevelopment for safe and exciting play for our children.
We have several neighbourhood improvement areas, Cherry Lane, parts of Martyrs Avenue, Cedar Close. New modern flats built in Lark Rise, Rushetts Road, Nightingale Close, Walnut Close, we have two new mosques, and many other groups locating to Langley Green, we are a diverse, multi-cultural and tolerant neighbourhood and I am proud to represent it. Please vote for me to continue on May 5th 2016
