In terms of a personal note, I think what would stand out is what drove me to get involved.
Having moved from Cardiff to Crawley, I had experienced many difficult issues in so little time just to get settled in.
This made me think about the residents that had lived here most of their lives and their problems. I wanted to make a difference.
It started with the issues of finding affordable housing in Crawley. Then once that was sorted, I couldn't get my children into a catchment school. This was not even about finding the best school, it was simply getting them into a school at a reasonable distance to home. then they were all separated. So all three girls were enrolled in three different schools, at opposite ends of Crawley. The distance from home was less than two miles so the that meant transportation would not be provided. As you might imagine, it was extremely stressful to get the girls to three different schools on time, as this was impossible, not to mention disruptive to the girls and the schools. Through my struggle, I have discovered many parents in the same or similar situation and it is completely unacceptable.
