Chris Oxlade Bewbush and Ifield West
Chris Oxlade was born in Crawley and lived in the town all his life.
Growing up in Langley Green then Pound Hill, Chris went to Milton Mount then Hazelwick schools, leaving school at 18 and starting at Radio Mercury in 1990. After 20 years with the radio station Chris left Mercury when the brand changed to Heart FM, Chris now works for Open House as well as running two companies, one producing radio commercials, audio presentations and celebrity voice-overs whilst the other specialises in events and stage productions.
Chris’ passion is working in the community. Running the Mercury FM Charity Appeal for over 15 years and assisting with events all over Crawley, he is deeply committed to promoting local causes and setting up new initiatives. From the Crawley Champion’s awards to a brand new charity setting up later this year, his love for Crawley and drive to promote the excellent work local charities and voluntary groups perform is what keeps him going!
Chris became a Labour Councillor in 2009, standing for Ifield West and Bewbush in the County Council elections. Previously a Crawley Borough Councillor in Ifield, he works hard to help local residents with issues and to fight the savage Conservative-led cuts, particularly in the youth service, which blight residents lives.
