As Crawley commuters continue to suffer from poor services, Cllr Peter Lamb has called for the Government to release the long-delayed Gibb Report into the running of the Southern Rail franchise.
The report was commissioned from Chris Gibb, a Network Rail non-executive director with 35 years’ experience, in September 2016. The Department for Transport claimed the report could not be released in the pre-election period, yet with the election over no release date has been announced and there are concerns the Government is trying to supress its findings.
The call is the latest in a series of actions taken by Crawley Borough Council to press the Government for action on the state of the railways. Last July, the Full Council massed a motion demanding the Government take any action necessary to resolve the ongoing chaos on the Southern Network, with Cllr Lamb previously writing on behalf of local residents to both the Secretary of State for Transport and management of Southern Railway.
Cllr Peter Lamb, Labour Leader of Crawley Borough Council, said: “It is unacceptable that Crawley residents are forced to go on suffering under this failed franchise, the Government has the power to fix the network whenever they choose. It’s time for the Government to release the Gibb Report and act on its findings.”
