Exciting Times for Crawley

These are exciting times for us in Crawley.  Hardly a day goes by without scaffolding going up on a building in the Town Centre or work starting on a site in Manor Royal as Crawley continues its regeneration as a modern 21st Century Town.

Work is now scheduled to start on-site in Queens Square on Monday 5th September – timed to start after the school holidays. Jointly with our contractors Blakedown, we are working with local retailers, residents and businesses to keep them fully informed and plan to ensure that all shops will be open during the duration of the work and any inconvenience to residents is kept to a minimum.

The Decathlon store has had its external appearance refurbished and will open in Queens Square at 5pm on Thursday 13th October. Decathlon are already engaging with local sports clubs and hiring staff from Crawley prior to the opening.

The Arora application for a new Crawley station has been approved in principle with the details to be provided later this year. This exciting proposal will be a significant upgrade to our rather tired station.  And CBC are working with a potential partner to review opportunities for the Town Hall site – hopefully we will have more news on this later.

And we are also looking after the little things that can make all the difference, with small scale physical improvements too.  That’s why we have provided colourful summer flower displays and bunting in the town centre and why we have repainted the lampposts in Memorial Gardens and provided colourful and informative window vinyls in Queens Square. I hope that you have spotted them.

You can see details and get regular updates on: www.regeneratingcrawley.org.uk – let us know what you think by sending in your comments and suggestions.  I’ll be reporting on more developments in Manor Royal Business District in future articles.

Only a Labour run Council has the energy, aspiration and vision to take on this work.  We are committed to supporting and improving the Town Centre and Manor Royal Business District and are ‘on track’ to do just that!
