Ifield Mill Pond Update and Landscaping

Ifield Councillors have had issues/concerns raised by residents related to access to the weir and we are having this situation checked out.

The missing bollards at the car park entrance have now been put in place and the area (height Barrier) is secure.

The programme for the follow up landscaping works is as follows;

a) By the end of September to have consulted with planning colleagues, our in house ecology and “let’s face it” team, tree, Parks Managers and Community engagement teams to agree a comprehensive landscaping and planting scheme. Apart from general planting around both ponds the area adjacent to the new dam and the railway line will be planted appropriately to form a “wildlife” area. The trees that were removed to form the access for the dam works will be replaced in locations that will be informed by the overall scheme as it is developed. Once a detailed scheme has been drafted members will be updated and will have the opportunity to comment.

b) It is envisaged that the works can be programmed at the right time of the year to ensure that the planting will be successful. This may be Autumn 2015 or Spring 2016 and this will be dependent on the species and advice from our in house experts.

c) Currently there are bare areas due to the fact that at the time of grass seeding the weather was very dry. Some areas are developing and other are not but this was not a reason that could be used to not take handover of the areas from the Civil Engineering Contractor.

d) Benches, refuse and dog bins will be installed in September/October.

If any resident has any questions or concerns related to the work on the dam please get in touch with your local Labour Councillor.
